RFTA is pleased to announce that the Wildlife Section of the Rio Grande Trail—between Rock Bottom Ranch and Catherine Bridge—reopens today, April 30 at 5:00 PM.
RFTA owns and manages the majority of the Rio Grande Trail, a 42-mile multi-use corridor connecting Glenwood Springs to Aspen. This Wildlife Section closes seasonally each year from November 30 through April 30 to protect critical wildlife habitat. With the closure lifted, all users are welcome to return to this scenic stretch of trail.
To mark the reopening, a small gathering will take place at the Catherine Bridge Trailhead at 5:00 PM today. Community members are invited to stop by and help celebrate.
Seasonal Closure Reminder
The Wildlife Section closes annually from 5:00 PM on November 30 until 5:00 PM on April 30. During this time, a signed detour is in place between Hooks Lane Trailhead and Catherine Bridge Trailhead. The closure applies to all users, including pedestrians, cyclists, anglers, and hunters.
Respect Wildlife
Spring is a sensitive time for wildlife. Please stay on the trail, follow posted signage, and keep a safe distance from animals, and note that dogs are not permitted at any time within the Wildlife Section.
