If you’re out enjoying the Rio Grande Trail, you may notice some four-legged workers along the way—the goats are back!
Each year, RFTA brings in a herd of grazing goats as part of its Integrated Weed Management Plan. Instead of relying on herbicides, the goats naturally graze invasive weeds, helping improve soil health and maintain a healthier landscape along the Rio Grande Trail.
The herd, provided by Goats On The Go, started outside of Carbondale along County Road 100, near the Rodeo Grounds and Nieslanik’s Farm. As they graze, the goats will gradually make their way along the trail and will continue their work through September.
If you come across the herd, please enjoy watching them from a safe distance and do not disturb the goats, their fencing, or their livestock guardian dogs. Your cooperation helps keep both visitors and the animals safe while the goats do their important work.
