UPDATE (02/27/2026): Construction on the Elk Creek Bridge has been completed ahead of schedule. Highway 6 is now open, and normal RFTA operations have resumed as of 3 PM , Friday February 27th. All regular New Castle stops are back in service.
Starting on Thursday, February 26th at 5pm, construction will begin on the Elk Creek Bridge in New Castle resulting in the closure of highway 6 and a detour for RFTA buses and riders.
Going Westbound into New Castle? RFTA buses will drop off at New Castle Park & Ride (Stop ID: 13). A connector shuttle will pick up here to take riders into New Castle to a temporary stop near the intersection of Main Street + Vandeventer Ave.
Main St + 6th St (Stop ID: 11 eastbound and Stop ID: 178 westbound) will both be closed.
Going Eastbound/Upvalley from New Castle?
If starting in downtown New Castle, use the temporary stop near the intersection of Main St + Vandeventer Ave to catch the connector shuttle to the New Castle Park & Ride (Stop ID: 13). Transfer to a RFTA bus to continue eastbound and upvalley.
New Castle Park & Ride (Stop ID: 13) will be used as an eastbound and westbound stop. New Castle Park & Ride eastbound (Stop ID: 179) will be temporarily closed. Please make sure to check the bus destination sign before boarding.
Going Eastbound from Rifle or Silt? RFTA buses will still service Hwy 6 stops until Hwy 6+Lyon Blvd (Stop ID: 170/177) and will turn around at the roundabout to detour onto I-70. Please expect delays and longer travel times.
