RIDER ALERT: Keeping Riders Informed on Hogback Bus Service 

RFTA Hogback Service between Glenwood Springs and New Castle Continues Unchanged as Regional Partners Explore Solutions for Areas West to Silt and Rifle 

RFTA is working closely with regional partners to explore solutions that support reliable bus service along the I-70 corridor, specifically for portion of the Hogback service west of New Castle to Silt and Rifle. Recent discussions have raised questions about this portion of the route, and we want to provide clarification for our riders and communities. 

  • Any potential service impacts referenced in recent community presentations and news reports apply only to the portion of the Hogback route west of New Castle, specifically beyond New Castle to Silt and Rifle. This segment lies outside of RFTA’s member jurisdictional boundaries and operates through separate funding arrangements. 
  • The Town of New Castle is a current RFTA member community, and service between Glenwood Springs and New Castle will continue as it does today. There will be no change to Hogback service between Glenwood Springs and New Castle, and RFTA will continue to provide its regular service for its riders. 
  • RFTA, Garfield County, the City of Rifle, and the Town of Silt are actively collaborating to identify sustainable funding solutions that would maintain service to Silt and Rifle. Discussions are ongoing, and all parties are dedicated to exploring options that support each community’s needs. 

RFTA recognizes the importance of the Hogback route to residents and commuters along the I-70 corridor and will continue working with these communities to address funding challenges and explore long-term solutions for the portion of the route west of New Castle, serving Silt and Rifle. For the most up-to-date route schedules and service times, RFTA encourages riders and community members to visit www.rfta.com.
