The Traveler

WHAT IS THE TRAVELER? The Traveler is a transportation service available to anyone who is 60 years of age or older, or who has a severe disability. We provide wheelchair accessible, door-to-door, demand responsive, driver assisted transportation to Garfield County residents who cannot use public or private transportation because it is unavailable, inaccessible, or unaffordable. This program primarily serves the elderly and people with disabilities.

Local seniors visiting Maroon Bells.

The goals of the Traveler include being a catalyst in health promotion, social interaction and independent living for the elderly and people with disabilities by providing mobility access. This includes trips to medical appointments and rehabilitation, visits to senior meal sites, grocery shopping, social opportunities with friends and family, paid and volunteer employment opportunities, visits to the library, courhouse and other needs.

The Traveler is a private, not-for-profit entity which receives support through Colorado Mountain College, Garfield County Council on Aging, RFTA, and all of the communities of Garfield County. The Traveler has served the residents of Garfield County since 1974.

RIDES - To schedule a ride please give us a call and follow the guidelines listed on the right. Please remember that rides are on a first come, first served basis. If you have an ongoing appointment you can schedule rides in advance.

CANCELLATIONS - If you need to cancel a ride, please let us know as soon as possible. Your advance cancellation notice helps our program provide a ride for another person. You can call 945-9117 or 625-1366 and leave a message. If you do not cancel your ride and the driver arrives at the prearranged location, you will be considered a "no-show" and you may be charged the full price of the ride.

FIVE MINUTE WAIT - We ask you to be ready at least 15 minutes prior to pickup time. If you are delayed, the driver will wait no longer than 5 minutes past your schedules pickup time. Delays make your drivert late for all other rides and can make other riders miss their appointments.
